A Pseudo Poem: A walk to an island
I generally don't read or write poetry, but I wrote this a few years ago, randomly.
I live by the sea, and when the tide is low you can walk to a small uninhabited island via a natural causeway. I penned this after one such visit.
I prefer to think of it as passionate prose!
A Ocean's Scar
Like a silver serpent the water retreats,
Nature's creation exposed to all.
Crushed underfoot, without much thought,
these natural sanctuaries devoid of life.
Onwards we tramp seeking our goal,
to visit the land owned by the sea.
Glistening granite litters the shore,
dotted with glass like jewels in a crown.
Climbing the rise offers no challenge,
bracken and bramble the simplicity of life.
The summit arrives and delivers its vista,
rolling landscape painting the picture.
The scent of an ocean hangs in the air,
filling our lungs with the gift of life.
Poised on the edge, daring a glimpse,
the rampant rocks calling us down.
Around the shore we dance a tune,
made only by seaweed’s gasping balloons.
The majestic rocks standing proud,
proclaiming their defiance to all who may sail.
We’ve borrowed some time, and stolen a visit,
and now we return to our plot on the land.
The serpent returns, engulfing its territory,
but we know it repeats with ease and serenity.
