Forking Mad+

I want what She is having!

For the last several days the dog has been under the weather. She's been lethargic, miserable looking, and melancholy. I had hoped she would perk up in a day or two, and on Tuesday she seemed to have bounced back to her usual cheery, always happy, wagging-tail dog.

On Wednesday morning she looked more depressed than ever. Every time I touched her she frozen and tensed up her whole body. She ate her food at night and had a little water but I was not happy.

Thursday morning, she was the same. Although her eyes were bright, her head was down. I checked her gums and they were a good colour; her skin was still elastic so no dehydration. There was no obvious high temperature. I poked and pressed all over her body but she just stood there, frozen solid. I was not happy so I decided to call the vet for an appointment. I got one at 3:30pm and it could not come soon enough.

When I put her collar on before we set off she actually squealed with pain. If nothing else, it gave me a clue that she was in some discomfort around her neck.

I lifted her into the car and we drove the twenty-minutes to the vet.

Examination

The vet did all the same tests as me, but also pulled each leg, and pressed down all the vertebrae. Although the dog never made a sound, it was clear her neck was very stiff and she was tensing up her body to protect herself.

I searched my brain trying to think if anything had happened recently, but came back blank.

The vet injected her with some anti-inflammatory and gave me a course of the same in liquid form for a week, plus pain-killers to be given three times per day for a week.

She said if there was no improvement by Monday they would do a x-ray. The vet was not overly worried and hoped it would remedy itself with drugs.

The recovery

It took twenty-minutes to get home. I lifted her out the car, and she walked gingerly round to the back garden.

She then launched into top speed, running around the garden. Then into the house and sat at her treat box expectantly.

An hour ago she moved at a glacial pace!

Since then she has eaten, drank lots of water, spent time in the garden, and generally blossomed back into herself.

I need some

I want whatever was in the injection. Miracle stuff -- I could use when I haul my 56-year old skeleton out the bed in the morning.

I will start her on tablets and liquid tomorrow morning for a few days and hope that she continues her upward spiral to normality.
